Map your own route
MapMyFitness* is a free online tool to create your own virtual walking routes.
(*The County of Santa Clara and the Employee Wellness Division are not endorsing this online application. This is a common application for tracking fitness, creating walking routes, and more.)
To manually create a walking route from the website:
- Sign up for free or log in to mapmyfitness.com.
- Under Routes, select “Create Route.”
- Under Controls, search for an address/location. You can also change the preferences and display settings.
- Click a place on the map to create your starting point.
- Draw your route on the map by clicking where you want to go.
- On the map, you can drag, zoom in/out, change the map view, and reverse, undo, or clear a route.
- As you draw the route, you can see the total distance and elevation.
- Un-check “Auto Follow Roads” to make direct paths such as walking through a park or through a parking lot. Re-check this option once you get back to the roads to make mapping easier.
- Click “Save Route.” Name your route, select the activity type and privacy settings, and click “Save Route” again.
To add your walking map to the Employee Wellness Division webpage:
- Under Routes, select “My Routes.”
- Select your walking map. Make sure the route is visible to the public.
- Click “Share.”
- In the pop-up box, click “Email.”
- Send the email to [email protected]. Include “New Walking Route Request” in the subject line and your building address and department name in the body of the email.
